AR-15: The Preferred Weapon for Killing

A 19-year-old former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., Opened fire Wednesday afternoon at his old school, killed 17 people and wounded 15 others.

The incident is the 18th school shooting and the 40th mass shooting in 2018, sadly, the numbers are still climbing.

The suspect, identified by police officials as Nikolas Cruz, he chose the same weapon used to carry out some of the deadliest mass shootings in Americas history: The AR-15, reports Think Progress.

The problem for the nation’s massive shootings seems to keep getting worse. And the latest and most serious shooting seems to have something new in common: Yes , It’s the AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle.

AR-15 usually has large clip loaders, and shoots bullets at a higher speed than many other firearms in its class, and leaves visibly more complex, massive injuries to victims.

AR-15 is one of the most popular rifle in the United States, today.

According to National Rifle Association (NRA) , It’s estimated that there are over 9 million AR-15 s in circulation as of 2014. It’s popularity is due to it’s extremely easy customisation and accommodates higher capacity loaders that can easily fire 100 rounds or more at an extremely rapid rate. characteristics that the NRA usually promotes in it’s blog.

There are a couple of theories that could suggest why the AR-15 s are associated with deadly attacks. AR-15 rifles fire small but high-velocity .223 cal bullets that often break inside victims’ bodies upon impact, creating more devastating injuries than the wounds usually left by rounds of larger firearms, but from slower speeds.

Shooters often use rifles with Thirty round magazines, which allow them to fire more rounds without any interruption, compared to the smaller-loaders commonly used in small-arms.

The NRA stated that “the rifle is used mainly for hunting”, but the hunters say that the rifles are not as accurate as they require.

Instead, the weapon is marketed more towards civilians who want to play war.

Colt’s first AR-15 model in the 1960 s was inspired by civil interest in the automatic version of the rifle that the company had sold to the US military, such as the M-16.

The popularity of the rifle is also due to the frequency with which the NRA promotes it.

Their Twitter account, regularly has messages of admiration for this AR 15, even after the assault-rifle has been used to assassinate numerous individuals in numerous shootings.

For example, the NRA still believes that the AR-15 is absolutely “perfect for defending ones home”, and it very well might be.

The NRA will not mention when the AR 15 is used or was used in a massacre, but will let you know when it is NOT used to kill defenceless civilians, kind-of a play on words, don’t you agree?.

While details of Wednesday’s shooting within Florida continue to be still unveiling, authorities say the suspect, Nikolas Cruz, 19, was armed with at least one AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and “countless magazines,” according to the county sheriff.

The Parkland massacre is unusual. Among the authors of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in the US, Cruz is the only suspect to be the armed gunman who escaped, survived and will probably face trial , giving the public the opportunity to learn why this massacre occurred.
