Tech 9 Is Dead: Important Things to Know About the Rapper

Akeem Mickens, also known as the battle rapper Tech 9, passed away on the 25th of March. His sad death was confirmed by his friend Buttah Madison, also known as Buttah From The Block. People often confuse him with rapper Tech N9ne; some also believe these two are the same person.

The cause of death is still unknown, but we hope it happened due to natural causes. There were no signs of harm to his body. He died at the age of 32.

As said earlier, his death was reported by Buttah on Facebook. She said that Philadelphia and the rap culture had lost a legend and a pioneer, an amazing father and a gentleman, and a philanthropist.

He was also one of the most famous battle rappers from the entire history of the genre. He was basically the one to shape the battle rap genre. He became famous in the battle venues Lionz Den and Street Arena; then he became part of the community at the Ultimate Rap League (URL). He was known for his sense of humor, and passion for his music.

He then became an amazing commentator. He was the beloved commentator on Champion, together with Jay Blac, and showed his sense of humor and thorough critiques. He also had a catchphrase: “Microwave Stopper”, that won’t be forgotten any time soon. He also appeared on numerous TV shows.

He was respected by the entire rap community. Lots of rappers took it to Twitter to express their sadness. Among the artists there were Kendrick Lamar and Lupe Fiasco. They both expressed their condolences to the family.

He has a beautiful wife and a young daughter.
