The Ontario Government announced their proposed pricing for legal pot at $10 per gram, between $1 to $2 per gram more expensive then illegal weed.
The Ontario Finance Minister Charles Sousa said $10 per gram is “certainly something that we’re giving consideration to.”
The price of weed will be discussed in the fall when all provinces will have a meeting to discuss the matter with finance ministers.
Weed should be legalized across Canada in July 2018.
At $10 per gram the black market will still be around, the prices of government sold weed will have to drop to around $7 per gram to compete and possibly remove the black market.
As pot gets sold by government agencies there will be some restrictions like age for example, currently the government is debating at which age to make it legal, their recent announcement resulted in the minimum age to smoke of 25-years-old.
Full-time smokers will help eliminate the black market by giving up on their dealers and buying from government agencies, the supply for black market weed should drop significantly.
